Will the upcoming COP29 in November review methane reduction progress?
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) released its 'WMO Greenhouse Gas Bulletin (2023) No. 20' on October 28, 2024, showing that in 2023, the global average surface CO2 concentration reached 420.0 parts per million (ppm), increased 11.4% in just 20 years, methane reached 1934 parts per billion (ppb), and nitrous oxide reached 336.9 ppb. The bulletin states that these values are 151%, 265%, and 125% of pre-industrial (prior to 1750) levels, respectively.
CH4, CO2, and H2O, as the main gases causing global warming, have always been unavoidable topics at the United Nations Climate Summit. In response to this, FPI has introduced the HGA-331 high-precision greenhouse gas analyzer, which uses Cavity Ring-Down Spectroscopy (CRDS) technology. The laser undergoes multiple reflections on mirrors in a limited cavity, enabling the laser to make multiple roundtrips within the cavity, achieving an effective measurement path length of up to 20 kilometers. The absorption of gases affects the laser during the roundtrip process, leading to decay, and the greenhouse gas concentration is measured by measuring the decay time of the laser, based on a proprietary algorithm model. Both the technical challenges and the structural design, temperature, and pressure control of the product are extremely demanding.
Currently, the product has successfully passed tests at multiple monitoring institutions including the China Meteorological Administration Meteorological Detection Center, Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center, Zhejiang Province Ecological Environment Monitoring Center, among others. Test results show that performance indicators comprehensively meet international top-level standards. The indicators exceed the WMO network compatibility target by 1/2, meet the WMO internal reproducibility requirements, and are the only domestically produced instruments that meet this international standard. They also meet the greenhouse gas detection requirements of the European Integrated Carbon Observation System (ICOS) and are the only domestically produced instruments that meet these standard requirements.
Reducing carbon emissions, cleaning the air, and saving lives have long been the World Health Organization's goals. The advanced technology and high precision of the HGA-331 High-Precision Greenhouse Analyzer help governments and monitoring centers understand and control carbon emissions. This assists in developing targeted emission reduction policies, particularly benefiting developing countries in meeting international standards. By promoting and using such equipment, we can effectively monitor emissions, contribute to global carbon reduction efforts, and align with green policies, combining technology and policy effectively.
Leveraging FPI's advanced scientific instrument research base, the high-precision greenhouse gas analyzer has now achieved full industrial production, with an annual production capacity exceeding 300 units. FPI has always adhered to independent innovation, creating independently controllable core technological advantages, providing innovative products and solutions for many industries such as environmental protection, water resources, emergency safety, metallurgy, petrochemicals, chemicals, cement, semiconductors, materials, energy, geology and mining, food and medicine, disease control, and life sciences.
